The Replacements "I Will Dare" Music Video

When Rhino asked Kassel & Co (then operating as Lake & Pine) for a video to promote the Let It Be deluxe box set, the song was “I Will Dare.” My first reaction was panic. This was the song of my teenage years, and The Replacements famously hated making music videos. Anything I put on screen had to earn its place next to a song that never needed pictures.

My way in was the “Takin’ A Ride” video I’d directed four years earlier, where Jon and Fred the dog duck into the CC Club during the guitar solo. “I Will Dare” plays out in another booth at that same moment. It borrows the look of the band’s early anti-videos, all tight crops and nobody trying too hard, for a boy-meets-girl story about finding your nerve once you stop forcing it.

I wrote the concept and treatment, directed the shoot, and edited the video and its social cutdowns. Full credits on IMDb.
